Application Programming Interface (API)
Application Programming Interface (API)
The MediaCast system provides an Application Programming Interface (API) for customers with software development capabilities. The API enables a remote Internet-connected application to perform many of the basic operations that can be done by a person through the user interface - only without the user interface or the person!
The two most common usages for an API of this nature are extension of existing infrastructure management software, and extension of content management automation features.
In the case of the former, it is not uncommon for an established corporation to have a preexisting content/facility/asset management system that their employees are already trained to operate. By integrating the MediaCast API features into that existing application, the corporation would avoid having to introduce employees to a new and separate management system.
In the case of the latter, sometimes a business may wish to overlay their own “rules” of how content behaves - when it appears, on what screens, integration with their internal billing system, etc. By extending the content management features of the MediaCast API, the external application can control what content goes out to the display network and when according to their own business rules.
